Accessibility Statement

Our aim

We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control. Our target is level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.2.[1]

What we have done

  • Text and buttons are designed to meet the level AA colour contrast ratios, including text on the terracotta panels.
  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a "skip to content" link.
  • Pages use headings, lists, tables and landmarks so that assistive technology can describe their structure.
  • Meaningful images are described in text, and purely decorative ones are marked so screen readers skip them.
  • Form fields have visible labels, and error messages explain what to fix while keeping what you typed.
  • Interactive controls, such as buttons, checkboxes and menu items, are at least 24 by 24 pixels, in line with WCAG 2.2.
  • Tables reflow into labelled cards on narrow screens, and wide tables can be scrolled with the keyboard.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content, and the layout adapts to small screens.
  • Animation is minimal and respects the reduced motion setting.
  • The contact form does not use visual puzzles or image challenges.

How we tested

The site was checked with automated contrast and structure tests, by keyboard on desktop browsers, and at phone and desktop widths. We review accessibility whenever we make significant changes.

Known limitations

  • The website concept pictures on the home and concepts pages are decorative mock-ups; their text is repeated in the captions beside them for screen reader users.
  • Some external sources we link to, such as PDF guidance documents, may not be fully accessible. We cannot control those documents, but we summarise the relevant points on our own pages.
