Purpose of the guides
The guides on this site explain the rules and practices that shape estate and letting agency websites in the UK. They are meant to help agencies understand what their website should show and why, in plain English, with links to the official sources so readers can check for themselves.
Sources
We start with primary sources wherever they exist: legislation, government guidance, guidance from Trading Standards and regulators, and documentation from the platforms concerned. We use secondary sources, such as law firm briefings and trade body articles, to explain primary material, to date changes, or where the primary source cannot be reached. Every source list labels each entry by type, so you can see at a glance whether a point rests on legislation, official guidance, a secondary source or a commercial publisher.
Price figures for websites come from companies that sell websites. We label them as coming from commercial publishers and describe exactly what each figure covers, using the publisher's own description.
Checking and dating
Each guide shows the date its sources were last checked. When a rule changes, we update the affected guides and their dates. If we cannot confirm a claim against a source, we remove it or state the uncertainty plainly.
What we do not publish
- Statistics we cannot trace to a source.
- Testimonials, client stories, results or ratings that are not genuine.
- Claims about experience, team size or past projects that we cannot support.
- Website concepts presented as client work. All concepts on this site show fictional agencies and are labelled as such.
Not legal advice
The guides are general information about how rules affect websites. They are not legal advice and do not account for individual circumstances. Where a question needs professional advice, the guides say so.
Commercial interests
Estatovio sells website design and development to estate and letting agents, and the person who runs it has commercial interests in web design services. Guides and service pages carry a disclosure saying so. The guides are written to be useful whether or not readers hire us, and we do not accept payment for coverage or links.
Corrections
If you find an error, please email hello@estatovio.site with the page and the issue. We check the point against the source and correct it promptly if it is wrong. Significant corrections update the date on the guide.
Who writes the guides
