Ethan Brooks, Editor and Writer

Ethan Brooks writes and edits the guides on this site, covering the rules and practices that shape estate and letting agency websites in the UK.

What Ethan writes about

Ethan writes the Estatovio guides on how UK rules and good practice apply to agency websites: what listing pages should show, how letting fees and scheme statements are published, what the Renters' Rights Act changed for rental adverts, how consumer law treats reviews and pricing, how forms should handle personal data, and what agency websites cost. He also edits the service pages so that what they say about the law matches the guides.

How the guides are researched

Each guide starts with primary sources: legislation on legislation.gov.uk, guidance on GOV.UK, Trading Standards guidance from the National Trading Standards estate and letting agency teams and Business Companion, and documentation from the platforms involved. Secondary sources, such as law firm summaries and trade body articles, are used to explain or date those sources and are labelled as secondary in each guide's source list. Price figures from companies that sell websites are labelled as coming from commercial publishers.

Every source is checked on the date shown at the end of each guide. Where a source could not be confirmed, the claim is removed or clearly qualified rather than left standing.

What Ethan does not do

The guides explain rules as they affect websites. They are not legal advice. Ethan is not a solicitor and does not advise on individual situations. Where a question needs a professional answer, the guides say so and point to the relevant official guidance or professional body.

Corrections

If you spot an error or something out of date in any guide, please write to hello@estatovio.site. Corrections are checked against the source and made promptly, and significant changes are reflected in the updated date on the guide. The editorial policy sets out how this works.

A note on interests

Estatovio sells website design and development to estate and letting agents, and the person who runs it has commercial interests in web design services. The guides are written to be useful in their own right, and none of them requires you to hire anyone to act on it.
